Located in the welcoming community of Grand Narrows on the shores of the world-famous Bras d’Or Lake, Barra Strait Marina offers anglers an easy and accessible gateway to one of Nova Scotia’s premier inland fishing destinations. Situated beside the iconic Barra Strait Bridge, this community-run marina provides convenient access to the extensive waterways of the Bras d’Or system, known for its scenic beauty and diverse fishing opportunities. 

This Easy Access Sportfishing site features a boat launch and marina facilities, making it an excellent starting point for a day on the water. Visitors can enjoy the waterfront atmosphere, relax on the nearby beach, or stop at the Wheelhouse Café overlooking the lake.

While visiting, take time to explore nearby attractions including the Grand Narrows Waterfront, the historic village of Iona, and the Highland Village Museum (An Clachan Gàidhealach), where visitors can experience Cape Breton’s rich Gaelic culture and history. The Bras d’Or Lake Scenic Drive also passes through the area, offering spectacular views, coastal communities, and opportunities for sightseeing throughout your trip

Easy Access Area

Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is committed to promoting easy-access sportfishing opportunities across Nova Scotia.  Accessible needs vary from person to person, so we provide details about selected site features, along with photos, to help visitors determine whether a location will meet their individual needs.  If you have questions about a site or would like more information, please contact us at inland@novascotia.ca

  • The pier surfaces used for fishing are level, stable, and slip resistant wood. Some small thresholds are present where boards stick up slightly, especially at the ends of the boards, but most are minimal.
  • Although there is ample room to park, there is no designated accessible parking spot
  • Designated pathways are not provided from the parking area to the fishing piers. Users must travel through
    the asphalt parking surface and then pass through a gravel area to access the fishing piers.
  • Seating is available on both piers. Benches are provided at regular intervals along the piers.
  • Boat launch ramp is present on site with parking nearby
  • Washrooms are present on site including two universal washrooms within an amenity building nearby the
    marina.
